Throughout history, many women conformed to hysteria or mental illnesses to fit the “craziness” projected onto them for placing themselves in a male dominated field. To achieve this push and pull feeling, I wanted images that captured the contrast between beauty/femininity with madness/destruction.
As an Asian-American woman, I am very interested in how marketing and consumer culture, particularly in Asia, influences the fetization and objectification of Asian women. To make this piece, I decided to take found footage and mix glitch art to create a new narrative. This piece took around a month from time of research to the finished project.
