Animatic
Poetic inquiry has been a valuable tool when developing ideas for animation. It has allowed me to keep long stories short and allowed me to probe at more abstract feelings and emotions. This project started as a poem, where I was examining my feelings around being biracial and the tension happening around the world at the start of COVID. This animatic went through many iterations to create more engaging timing and imagery.
Animation Tests
Pulling scenes from the animatic, I started to examine different styles in which the story could be told. The “House Unraveling” combines 2D and 3D components. The 3D animation is rendered in Maya using a toon shader. The renders were then brought into After Effects to be composited with the drawings out of Procreate and some VFX.
In the “Doll House”, I went for a more realistic look. The undertones feel more unsettling with darker and less vibrant colors. The entirety of the project completed in Maya.
